DSC 1501Update: Rockport has been stocked with kokanee salmon and that looks like a great success. Kokanee are now being caught regularly and the size of the mature fish in increasing.

We fished Rockport on October 25, 2019, and found fast action for large, fat, rainbows. Others we talked to were also having great success for rainbows running 14-20 inches.

We had the best luck running rainbow-colored Rapalas down 10-20 feet. The best location seemed to be the deeper water along the highway, on the south side of the reservoir, across from the boat ramp. Others were doing well fishing baits. Everyone was catching fish.

Rockport Reservoir Overview

Rockport is a reservoir on the Weber River, just off I-80 east of Park City. It usually fishes well for rainbows, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Occasionally it yields large brown trout. Rainbow fishing is often very good in spring and fall, but summer action can slow. Ice fishing is usually very good. Perch fishing is good year-round and smallmouth action is good during summer and fall.

Location:

Along Hwy 32, about 2 miles south of the town of Wanship, just off I-18.

GPS coordinates: 40.774096, -111.398216

The boat ramp is located on the east side of the reservoir – you need to drive around most of the reservoir to reach it. The ramp is concrete and can handle boats up to large sizes.

Facilities

Rockport is a Utah state park with excellent campgrounds and picnic sites. Concessionaires rent boats and water toys. See the park website for details.
