Cicadas Are Starting On The Green River

Written by  Dave Webb

One of the most anticipated fishing events is the cicada hatch on the Green River. Steve Schmidt at Western Rivers Flyfisher reports that the big bugs are now starting to provide good fishing.

Steve says, "Everything appears to be early in Utah and the west.  BWO’s began early on the Green.  Now so are the Cicadas.  If the weather holds, they should be out in prolific numbers by the end of the month, or the first of June.  If the flows hold however, I wouldn’t wait till then.  Crowds are down in anticipation of spring flows that may never occur and the fishing is about as good as it gets for this time of year.  As Emmett told me today, “The Green if beautiful right now; clear, clean and the canyon is simply vibrant in fresh foliage and the fishing is quite good.’"
