Utah's Blue Ribbon Fishery Advisory Council will report on its progress at a public meeting at Sportsman's Warehouse in Provo on Jan. 29, 6 p.m. The council works with DWR and other groups to enhance fishing, improve waters and expand public access.

Bald Eagle Day will be February 1. It provides a chance to view and learn about bald eagles, as the Division of Wildlife Resources staff at least six viewing areas. Spotting scopes will be set up at each site and Division biologists and volunteers will be available to help viewers spot eagles and to answer any questions. Details.

An ice fishing derby is being sponsored by the Evanston Lions Club, with $76,900 in potential prize money. A tagged fish named Old Al is worth $25,000, and another named Slippery Bill is worth $15,000. The event will be held Feb. 8-9 at Sulphur Creek Reservoir, outside of Evanston. Winter Olympics Anniversary Celebration
February 8 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.  The public is invited free of charge to SLOC's unveiling of the legacy cauldron at Stadium at 6:30 pm. A fundraising event will be held at 7:30 to benefit the Utah Athletic Foundation and Utah Sports Commission. It will include dinner, an auction and highlight screening of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games film by renowned director Bud Greenspan. Hosts for the evening include former SLOC President Mitt Romney, NBC Olympic Chief Dick Ebersol and Olympic athletes. Sponsor packages and individual tickets ($200) are available for sale.
