We fished the Teton River, in the Teton Valley near Driggs Idaho, and had a great time. We floated, fishing as the current carried us downriver, and also stopped at likely spots to wade fish. We caught brook trout, rainbows, cutthroats, and whitefish. Fish were not big but were abundant enough to keep us entertained.
Three aspects of this trip made it particularly enjoyable. 1) The scenery is outstanding, with the Teton Mountains in the background. 2) We saw an amazing assortment of wildlife including moose, bald eagles, geese and ducks with babies, and many other species of birds. 3) The opportunity to catch several species. On previous trips here we’ve caught brown trout. Not many waters offer four trout species in one section.
We fished mid-week and the river was not crowded. We passed people fishing with guides and others just out kayaking and paddle boarding. We saw many family groups and some youth groups.
We spent about six hours on the water. There are many spots to put in and take out so trip length can be customized. Most of the people we passed had opted for a trip of about four hours.
We stayed with friends but know of many excellent lodges and motels in the area.
