This is a beautiful little reservoir in the forest, on the edge of the Uintas, that usually offers good to excellent fishing for smaller trout, with an occasional bigger fish thrown in.
It is stocked with rainbows and tiger trout. There are also some brook and cutthroat in the water.
We visited on June 29. We walked around the shoreline to the inlet area and caught fish by working flies just under the surface. Small dark patterns worked well. There were many fish jumping and lots of mosquitoes and gnats on the water.
Fallen trees can be seen on and in the water in that area. Our best success came working around those trees.
This reservoir is great for kayaks and canoes. There is no boat ramp but a short trail leads from a parking area to the water. Two people can easily hand launch a small craft.
There is a very nice developed forest service campground at the reservoir. Great primitive camping spots can be found along the access road below the reservoir, and also along the road above.
Summer temperatures are cool here – this is a great place to escape the heat of the city. Rainstorms are common during summer and so be prepared, even if storms are not in the forecast.
Winter snow piles deep and the access road is not plowed, so access is by snowmobile at that time.
