Description
Starvation Reservoir is one of Utah's top walleye fisheries. It is a great place to fish if you are new to walleye fishing because there are plenty of small fish that are relatively easy to catch. Starvation also offers a few trophy-sized walleye.

Brown trout also live in Starvation and nice ones are caught there every year, particularly during the period just after ice off in the spring and also during the late fall. Starvation also offers good smallmouth bass fishing.

Seasonal Factors
Walleye fishing usually picks up in mid to late April, after ice comes off and the water starts to warm. Brown trout fishing is often good during that same period. Walleye fishing stays good through the summer and often becomes very good during fall. Samllmouth bass fishing picks up in late May and stays good through the summer and early fall.

A few walleye are caught by ice fishermen but winter fishing is difficult at Starvation.

Lures and Techniques
The most common and perhaps most productive walleye lure is the common jig. Tubes, curly tails and various other styles are productive when worked along the bottom at shallow and moderate depths. Crank baits and crawler harnesses are also productive. People new to walleye fishing often do well trolling a crank or harness behind a bottom-bouncing sinker.

The Strawberry Reservoir above and below Starvation is a productive trout stream. (Above the reservoir the best fishing is on the "wild" section above the Pinnacles.) Downstream the stream crosses private property so avoid posted areas.
