Red Canyon is a very scenic area along Hwy 12 just west of Bryce Canyon. It is a fun place to visit during any month of the year, but is perhaps the most striking when there is snow on the ground. The highway is plowed and kept open. (It may be closed briefly during major snow events.)
The is a very nice Forest Service campground in the canyon, along with great hiking, biking and horseback trails. There is an equestrian area with facilities near the western entrance to the canyon, near the Thunder Mountain Trailhead. It is great fun to ride horseback beneath the hoodoos. The bike trail is paved. Shuttle to the top of the canyon and it is a fact and fun downhill ride to the bottom. Hikes can range from easy strolls to pretty intense scrambling.
