Buckhorn Wash is popular recreational area in the northern part of the San Rafael Swell. It offers fascinating ancient Native American rock art panels, a dinosaur footprint, hiking trails, rock climbing and excellent campsites.
A maintained gravel road provides access to the canyon. Side roads are rugged and may require high clearance but the main canyon road does not.
To reach the canyon from the north, follow Hwy 10 south from Price to the town of Huntington. Follow signs from the middle of town east into the Swell and on to the Buckhorn Wash Road. You can also connect to the road by following signs east from the town of Castle Dale.
From the south, I-70 in the middle of the Swell provides access to the lower part of the Buckhorn Wash/S Lawrence Rd.

It is an easy, scenic drive through the canyon and there are many places to stop and play. Signs show the location of two rock art panels and the dinosaur footprint.
Toilets are provided at the top, middle and bottom of the canyon. Camping areas are found at the top and bottom, and several sign camping sites can be found along the road in the canyon.
Big sandstone walls in the canyon are scenic and are becoming popular for rock climbing. The area offers many places to ride mountain bikes and dirt bikes, and drive off road vehicles.
