Rock Corral is known as a great place to hunt for quartz, including smoky quartz, in Utah’s West desert near Milford. People also find obsidian and other minerals in the area.

The best smoky quartz is found around the picnic area at the top of the Rock Corral road. A toilet is available at the picnic area but there are no other facilities.

Excellent primitive campsites can be found along the access road.

This is a great spot to make a base camp, from which you can explore in several directions. This is on the west side of the Mineral Mountains, which offer many different interesting rocks. Some of Utah’s best obsidian is found just north and just south of Milford.

We camped in late March. Daytime temps were very nice, perfect for milling around. Nights were crisp. Spring and fall are perfect times to explore here. Summers are hot and winter nights can be very cold.
