½ c sugar
1 ½ C water
12 Marshmallows quartered
2 TBS shortening
1 tsp vanilla
½ c sugar
1c flour
½ tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
3 Tbs cocoa
½ c milk
½ c chopped nuts
Cook ½ cup sugar and water 5 minutes. Pour into casserole. Top with marshmallows. Cream shortening and ½ cup sugar. Add vanilla and mix. Sift flour with salt, baking powder and cocoa. Add milk and flour mixture alternately to shortening and sugar mixture. Add nuts and mix. Drop by spoonsful over marshmallows. Cover and bake at 350̊ F for 45 minutes. This recipe works well in a dutch oven or microwave. When baking in microwave decrease water to 1 cup.
This recipe also works well in a slow cooker.
