holt cascade tent camping

My favorite camping spots are located in the middle of nowhere. I search out places where I find beauty, serenity, and solitude. This spot has all of that and more.

I’m camping in Holt Canyon, in the mountains of southwest Utah, along a small stream that flows year-round, albeit the water flow diminishes during late summer. The pool below the cascade is not deep enough for swimming but it is a great place to splash and soak on a hot summer day. The stream only flows a short distance. It is completely dewatered as it flows north out of the mountains.

It is easy to find beautiful jasper rocks in the Holt Canyon area. The jasper here is known for its vivid and unique colors.

I like to camp where I play, so I don’t have to waste time shuttling to my destination from hotels or developed campgrounds. That usually means my spot does not have facilities: no restrooms or potable water. That's fine. I am self-sufficient and camp with a minimum of conveniences.

I love this spot because of its beauty and solitude.
