Fishing during the pandemic
Fishing waters in Utah remain open and people are welcome to fish, with some new regulations.
State parks are only open to residents of the county where the park is located. For example, Deer Creek Reservoir is in Wasatch County and so only residents of that county can enter and launch at state park boat ramps.
Travel is discouraged and social distancing is strongly encouraged. Spread out. You should never encroach on another fisherman's space but it is particularly important now.
Read the news and stay up to date on travel and shelter regulations.
Ice fishing is essentially over for the season. (As of 4/3/20, a few waters still have safe ice but conditions are deteriorating. Slush on top of ice makes access difficult.)
Streams will soon begin to pick up runoff. Most will be high, some muddy. The sheltered sections below dams should offer good action.
Strawberry will probably not have significant open water until mid-May.
Bass fishing is now coming on strong at Lake Powell, Sand Hollow and other southern Utah waters.
Bass action will improve in northern Utah in May and become very good in late May and early June.
Flaming Gorge will offer exceptional fishing through the spring and early summer.
