The Maze Rock petroglyphs are impressive, on a flat rock panel just east of House Rock Valley Road, in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. They can be viewed at the end of a short hike in this scenic area.
The trailhead is signed and there is a wide parking area. It is located a short distance south of the Utah/Arizona border, along the improved, dirt House Rock Valley Road. During dry weather, any vehicle can reach the trailhead. The road can be impassible in wet weather.
The trail is well marked and easy to follow. Just take it east, over a ridge, across a flat and up to the obvious panel.
There are many attractions in this area. The trailhead for The Wave and Buckskin Gulch are just to the north. White Pocket is a bit to the south.
If you are in this area, it is well worth stopping to see this unique panel. In addition to its namesake maze image, there are many kinds of animals and figures that may be humanoid. It is a place where your imagination can run wild, as you try to decide what you think the symbols represent.
