(See more Snow Canyon rock art images.)
There are beautiful ancient rock art images in Snow Canyon but park officials don’t promote them out of fear they will be “loved to death.” Rock art enthusiasts can easily find them with a little effort.
My favorite images are on the east side of the park, in rough terrain with limited access. In years past people could gain access to that side of the park from a trailhead at the end of a residential street but that has been shut down. There is a new parking area on the west side of Hwy. 18, about a mile south of The Ledges. The map below shows how to find that parking.
The best-known images are in a very narrow slot. The images are faded and obviously old, but still impressive. My favorite images are in a deep, narrow canyon on the very east edge of the park, and on the cliff above the canyon. A fun and challenging loop hike can be made by visiting the narrow slot and then hiking up the narrow canyon to the park boundary and then returning overland to the parking area.
More impressive art is found on a large wedge-shaped boulder above the canyon, just west of multi-million dollar homes.
I’m not giving specific directions or GPS coordinates for these sites but they can be found by persistent sleuthing.
The images below are from the canyon hike.
