We camped and played at Lone Rock Aug 26-27, 2023. The water level was 3575 ft and there was plenty of beach. Lone Rock is a popular spot but we never felt crowded.

When we visit Powell we love to boat away from the marinas to a remote canyon where we can camp in solitude, but this time our group was too large to fit all the people and gear on the boat. Lone Rock was our compromise because it is one of the few places where you can drive to the water and camp right on the beach. It worked out well.

The water was about 28 feet deep on the back side of Lone Rock. The air was nice and warm but not uncomfortably hot, and the water temp was perfect. We actually launched my 18 ft fish & ski from the beach without any problem. Trailers were getting stuck in the sand trying to position on the beach.

Lone Rock is at the north end of Wahweap Bay. The bay is large and offers plenty of room to ski, tube, kayak, and play.

At "normal" water levels you can use the Castle Rock Cut to get from Wahweap Bay to Warm Creek Bay. The cut opened briefly earlier this summer but water levels had dropped enough that using the cut was not an option on our trip. To get out of Wahweap Bay we needed to boat the main channel, which was very choppy from boat traffic. We spent most of our time just playing near Lone Rock.

There is some fishing opportunities in the Wahweap area, particularly during winter and spring. (During spring a large number of striped bass congregate near the dam and offer great fishing.) At other times of the year and for other species, the best fishing options are uplake.
