Goosberry Reservoir is a pretty little water in the high mountains along Skyline Drive, southwest of Scofield. It usually offers good fishing for catchable rainbows and a few wild cutthroat. Grayling were stocked in 2017 and might provide some action.

Much of the reservoir is shallow and weedy. The weeds provide great cover for the trout and support insects for the trout to eat, but the weeds also make fishing somewhat difficult. We found it best to use flies or baits/lures that run just under the surface, above the weeds.

Float tubers do well here.

Details:

  • Lat: 39.709957; Long: -111.291719
  • Elevation: 8437 ft
  • No boat ramp but small craft can be hand-launched

A good gravel road provides access during summer months. Winter access is via snowmobile, with deep snow and cold temperatures.

Camping is allowed along the shoreline and there is a very nice Forest Service campground nearby.

This is a great place for a family fishing/canoeing adventure.
