sand hollow largemouthLake Powell boat ramps are re-opening. Bullfrog and Wahweap will be open weekends beginning May 8 and for extended trips beginning May 15. See details.

Lake Powell fishing should be excellent through May and into June. As water warms, fish will become less active and anglers will need to work harder, but action can still be very good. Stripers will start to feed on the surface in late July and “boil fishing” will become red hot in August.

Flaming Gorge has great fishing for rainbows, kokanee and lake trout. Smallmouth bass fishing will become very good in late May and early June.

Strawberry is now ice-free and has good but spotty fishing. Most anglers are catching cutts, from boat and shore. Rainbows and kokanee are harder to come by but people who work at it are finding them.

Green, Provo, Weber, other streams are fishing very well. Runoff is coming on strong right now and so some stream sections will be muddy or have fast water. Focus on protected areas below dams.

Most of our trout reservoirs offer good to great fishing right now. Work the shorelines early and late in the day.

Bass fishing is very good at Sand Hollow, Quail Lake and Gunlock. Recreational boaters are competing with fishermen and these waters are often crowded, particularly on weekends.

Our state park waters are fully open and fishing is good most everywhere.

Boulder Mountain lakes will probably become accessable in early June. Uinta Mountain backcountry lakes will probably be accessible in late June.
